[[Airblast and controlling engagements |Airblast]] is one of pyro's strongest tools. By pressing the alt fire key, enemies within a cone in front of the pyro are pushed back, and projectiles within a large cube around the pyro are reflected. This can be used to reflect [[Basic Playstyle#Reflecting Spam|spam]] rockets/pipes/stickies for your team, deny enemy [[Basic Playstyle#Bomb Denial|bombers]], control ground in uber exchanges, and manipulate player position to give you a combat advantage. airblasting an team mate that is on fire will also extinguish them and restore 20 health.
### Afterburn

Damaging an enemy player with a fire-based weapon (flame throwers, flare guns) will light them on fire and inflict afterburn. This effect deals damage over time based on the weapon used to cause it. It also inflicts aim punch which can severely limit the sniper's accuracy. Afterburn can force low health players to find a source of healing before their health runs out. It is also extremely valuable when spy checking as afterburn reveals invisible players.
### Spy Checking

One of pyro's main responsibilities is to track spy time and prevent crucial members of the team from getting stabbed. This can be done through [[Spy Tracking]] as well as using common in game cues, such as directly after an uber or during a sac, for spy to make a play. Using the flame thrower to clear areas for cloaked spies as well as airblast to interrupted a spies attempt to backstab someone can be extremely effective.
